My feet are back on the ground...for a little bit! I got back from Denver last week where I was able to visit with my friend and tour/show off the city to my sister and her boyfriend. It was such a fun weekend!! We left New England with rain, and enjoyed Denver in the rain. It rained all weekend, but it worked out.
Disclaimer: this post is heavily populated with exclamation marks and smiley faces. I am one happy chica! There I go, already.
As I began writing this post, I planned to tell you about my sister and Mark moving to Colorado, the reason for them joining me (check out apartments, neighborhoods, etc). Buuutttttt....they aren't moving!! I am glad because I'd miss them way too much, but I am also glad they visited and realized for themselves that Colorado isn't the right fit for them right now.
yay.yay.yay.yay.yay.yay.yay.yay.yay.yay.yay.yay..yaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy.
Sorry - just had to let that out :)
Which brings me to the reason I went to Denver! My good friend Julia is there, and as much of a Fray fan as I am. Naturally, when I saw they were touring for a month to promote their new
album. I begged Mr. Shiksa to fly me out there to see them end their tour at
Red Rocks Amphitheatre. After much coaxing by me and Julia (thanks, girl!), and convincing Mr. Shiksa he'd be the "husband of the year" if he flew me out there for this momentous life event, my tickets were purchased!
I can’t even begin to describe to how AMAZING the concert was, even though it rained! When we first got there we put down our blanket with a poncho covering it about 2/3 of the way up since it was general admission. We went to get some beverages and on the way back to our seats a Red Rocks employee asked about our seats, and said “Oh no, early GA is down here!” So basically since we got there when doors opened they were starting the seating waaaay lower down! We were in row 17 (or something like that) right near a rope that we thought was for VIP/reserved seats! SCORE!

So it rained through the opening acts (
Churchill,
Dia Frampton) on and off, then harder, lightened up, and rained harder again. Before The Fray came out it was POURING! Luckily we had ponchos and hoodies that were kept pretty dry; it was just really cold and raw with all the rain. But like 10 minutes into their set it stopped raining! Not only are they my favorite band, and
Red Rocks is simply gorgeous, I got to see them -
there. I've been to Red Rocks before, but never for a show. The sound is like no other venue I’ve ever been to, or probably ever will go to, in my life. The acoustics really were perfect. For the next 2 hours I was in heaven.
The fog looked cool on the rocks, this is what they looked like early on in the night.
About halfway through their set they started singing “Happiness,” and then a little into the song Isaac started to walk up the stairs into the crowd like the proud local he is, soaking it all up. As we were trying to see where he was through the crowds…he popped up in our row!!! When we first sat down there was a big tarp a few seats to my left that was covering what we thought was a/v equipment. Well it was removed when Isaac came up and underneath was a piano, small drums, and microphones. He sang a few songs solo then the band joined him up there for a few more songs.
Dorks. Yup!
It was the best experience (besides my wedding, of course) of my entire life thus far. It was such an intimate, so moving, very personal, and emotional concert. I loved every second of it. They are a cool bunch of guys, and you can tell how humble they are. They aren't everyone's cup 'o joe, but they're my daily morning tea with milk and Splenda - I usually need both to kick start my day.
Saturday was spend touring the metro Denver area with the Megapizzis (a.k.a Ally and Mark) and checking out places they may have liked. We all thought it'd be fun to spend a night downtown and stayed at the
Magnolia Hotel. What a cute place! Hip, with great decor. Decor I didn't capture on my iPhone, sorry! Knowing the weather was blah I didn't bring our camera, and only snapped a few pics here and there after the concert. We ventured out in the drizzle to
dinner and a
champagne bar for a few drinks.

Somehow, the rain stopped again just in time for us to explore downtown by foot. Denver is a very hip place, laid back, with great people. It was a fun night, even though I was wiped out by midnight! The time change and constant activities were starting to work me down. All worth it though! It was a wonderful thing to sleep in a bit Sunday before exploring some more and flying home in the afternoon. Julia was a wonderful tour guide/hostess/friend to us all weekend - thank you Ms. J!!!
Although I was secretly hoping the Megapizzis move so I could visit often, I am glad that A.) they aren't, and B.) we all just had an incredible weekend to remember forever.
